Heart defect migraine
Any unbearable migraine can be extremely painful and this is accompanied by powerful nausea and also light sensitivity. For some people that are on medication, and this helps by controlling their headaches. For other sufferers, there is no drug that stops these debilitating attacks, because this is caused by a heart defect. For these people, doctors have found a solution to close the hole and fix the ache in the head. Almost 500 million people worldwide suffer from migraines. Researchers and physicians have suspected a link between the heart defect and migraines in a few people. This defect in people is clinically known as PFO, which means patent foraman ovale. This is a remainder of the fetal development. The defect comes in when there is a hole, the size of a pencil eraser between two chambers near the heart. After birth this hole remains partially opened, and this causes the defect. It becomes now a tiny passage covered with only a flap. It becomes a strainer, meaning when the pressure on the heart’s right climbs too high, the flap opens for blood to travel to the left of the heart. It is thought by physicians that during blood-travel from right to left, if maybe the lungs clear out something else in the blood and the result are a heart defect- migraine. It was then estimated that the defect is present in half of the people suffering from migraines around the world, and it is also these people who experience aura in their visuals, numbness, altered consciousness or weakness. A quarter of the people living with this heart defect, migraine don’t experience the aura. Clinical trials of the solution for the sufferers of PFO have concluded that the number migraine sufferers have decreased to 37 percent. Physicians confess that the trial is not a cure to all the migraines, but concludes that if the trial was effective in 50 percent of those suffering from migraines with the heart defect, migraine; it could help many other sufferers. An apparatus have been invented to close and seal PFOs. It makes it way to the heart from a vein, and once at the defected area, the device is opened similar to an umbrella and presses on the sides of the wall and then closes and seals the PFO. This device is designed only to hold the walls together while the hole heals and then it is removed.
