Optical migraine
We all experience headaches in our lives, and it take a couple of pills to get rid of them. Then we experience those that are more severe and because of the intensity of the headache, it affects out routines and our daily chores. When these headaches occur we experience visual changes. We conclude that this is probably just a migraine. You get the normal migraine that brings along an aura just before it attacks. When saying aura, I mean spots and visual flashes, and sometimes even halos and then there is the ringing sounds in the ear. If you experience ringing in the left ear, your migraine is going to hit on the right side of your head. Now we talk about optical migraine. What is this? This is a normal migraine that involves the aura, but there is no pain. This is a very rare form of migraine and it is also known as an acephalgic migraine. How you will know that you have an optical migraine is when your vision becomes disturbed by flashing lights that are almost zigzagged. This migraine begins with visuals marching across the field of the eye and then fades away. This attack can last for a few minutes or almost an hour. If for some reason you do experience a headache, know that the pain will hit you after an hour on average. Optical migraines can also cause a blind spot in one’s vision. How will you know for sure that you are suffering from an optical migraine? How a migraine is diagnosed is when you experience the same symptoms repeatedly over the years. If you experience the same kind of aura it is an optical migraine. If your visual pattern changes severely, then it could be something a little more serious, and you should consult your doctor. Women are more likely to experience optical migraines compared to men. Most of the time, it is something that is inherited. Aspirins and sedatives are usually the most common form of medication. Sleeping or just resting in a pitch-dark room can relieve the symptoms. If your optical migraine is accompanied by a severe headache, a triptan injection or nasal spray will give you relief. However, it is important to consult your doctor and discuss a few things before taking the injection or using the nasal spray. With this in mind, you will now be able to tell the difference between a normal headache and really bad migraine. In addition, you will be able to determine if those auras are bringing a migraine or optical migraine.
